The final matchup for the 'Greatest Prime Minister playoffs' is set.

It's Conservative Conference champion Sir John A. Macdonald versus Liberal Conference champion Lester B. Pearson.

Just to recap - with the Liberal Party leadership race heating up, and no end in sight with the NHL lockout, QMI

Agency is having some fun and built a mashup with our own version of the playoffs - but with prime ministers.

After more than 43,000 total votes in the various polls, QMI Agency readers are clearly passionate about our head honcho.

The quarter-finals and semis were tough on many popular prime ministers but in the end Sir John A. Macdonald took


out Stephen Harper and Lester B. Pearson prevailed over William Lyon Mackenzie King.

Sir John A. Macdonald was the first Canadian prime minister, integrated Rupert's Land and the North-Western Territory into Canada; oversaw the entry of British Columbia and Prince Edward Island into confederation and created the North-West Mounted Police. Lester B. Pearson introduced Canadian universal healthcare, the Canada Pension Plan, Canada student loans and created a new Canadian flag. He also signed the Auto Pact with the United States and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957 for his role in the Suez crisis.
