CALGARY — Four minutes after signing out for a washroom break, a Grade 3 Calgary-area student was found unconscious and hanging from his lanyard in a tragic accident.

The fellow student who found the young boy Wednesday afternoon rushed to get his teacher and another staffer, who is certified in first-aid, revived the boy while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

Greg Bass, Rocky View Schools superintendent, said he has “a heavy heart” at news of the devastating accident which unfolded at the start of recess.
