A 25-year-old Canadian man is dead after a rafting accident on the Vilcanota River in Peru on Tuesday, local media report.

Nishant Fozdar Jagdeep was found dead six kilometres from where the three rafts overturned, the Peruvian Times reports.

Jagdeep was one of 15 tourists who, along with three Peruvian guides, were running the river at about 5 p.m. when their boats capsized, El Comercio newspaper reports.

Alycia Berrier, a 23-year-old Florida woman, was missing after the accident. Her body was found Wednesday, the Peruvian Times reports.

Six other tourists were rescued from the water and the others managed to get to the banks of the river on their own.

A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said Canadian officials in Lima "are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information and are providing consular assistance to the family."
