16,400 Que. homes still without power
By QMI Agency

(HENRI MICHAUD/QMI Agency)

MONTREAL - Workers on Monday were still trying to restore power to 16,400 homes, the result of a snowstorm Friday that knocked down hydro lines and caused havoc on the roads.

The weather has hindered the work and some customers, mainly in the Laurentians, will likely be without electricity for another 72 hours.

About 800 workers were mobilized Monday morning.

Western Quebec as well as the region north of Montreal were hardest hit by the storm.

Quebec hydro customers were assisted by two Hydro Ottawa crews, who arrived in Quebec on Sunday to help restore power to clients in the upper Ottawa Valley and Western Quebec.

Quebec hydro was hoping to have power restored to 90% of its customers affected by the storm by Monday night.

At the height of the outage, more than 110,000 customers were affected
