10,000 Que. homes still without power
By QMI Agency

(HENRI MICHAUD/QMI Agency)

More than 10,000 Quebecers were still without power Tuesday afternoon after spending Christmas Eve in the dark.

Some homes have been without electricity since last Thursday and others lack running water after winter storms battered the province, knocking down power lines and causing havoc on the roads.

About 800 Hydro Quebec staffers were working to reconnect the remaining customers affected by the outage. The utility said it had restored power to 90% of its customers by Monday night.

At the height of the outage, more than 110,000 customers, mainly located in the Laurentians region, were without power.

Western Quebec as well as the region north of Montreal were hardest hit by the storm. Work remained particularly complicated in Sainte Marguerite du Lac Masson, Morin Heights and Red River. Weather conditions and heavy snowfall made some areas inaccessible.
