PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – A 27-year-old woman is dead and her brother faces dangerous driving and drunk driving charges after a Jeep crashed through the ice on an Ontario lake where they "joy riding" on the family's cottage property and went onto the ice just after midnight Monday, police said. Timothy Patrick Cranwell, 29, of Bancroft, Ont., was accompanied by his sister, Dana Sue Cranwell, from Owen Sound, Ont., and an 18-year-old man from Schomberg, Ont., police said. The trio were “joy riding” near their cottage north of Apsley, Ont., when the driver took the vehicle out onto the ice of nearby Eels Lake and began spinning in circles, police said. The Jeep broke through the ice, police said, and the two men escaped but the woman was unable to escape from the submerged vehicle, which sank in about 35 feet of water. |
