A judge has fined a restaurant owner after Montreal food inspectors found mouse droppings on kitchen appliances, bags of food and even cutlery.

The Mikes outlet, part of a chain with restaurants from Moncton, N.B., to Timmins, Ont., was ordered to pay $1,510 for the health-code violations.

In a municipal court ruling late last month, a judge summarized a November 2011 food inspection that revealed a revolting scene.

"The kitchen was infested with mouse droppings on work surfaces near food, utensils, pots on shelves, counters and on the floor," according to the report.
