Strong winds lead to power outages in southern Ontario
By QMI Agency

(QMI Agency files)

High winds are being blamed for a number of power outages across Toronto Sunday morning.

About 2,000 people in the Leslieville area were without power at 8 a.m., as tens of thousands of other outages were reported across the province after strong winds toppled trees and downed wires.

Environment Canada issued a wind warning for the GTA, with winds of up to 90 km/h expected for the morning.

"The strong northwest winds will diminish slowly today as the low pressure system moves into Quebec," the service stated.

The forecasted high for the day is -3C, feeling more like -12C with the winds.

Toronto Hydro is asking anyone who spots a downed wire to report it to them by calling 416-542-8000.
