TORONTO — No injuries were reported when a wheel came loose on an Air Canada Jazz plane just after landing at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.
Passengers and crew aboard Flight AC7860 had to disembark Sunday on the tarmac of Canada’s largest commercial airport, and were escorted to the terminal, Air Canada spokesman Debra Williams said Monday.
The turboprop plane, with 72 passengers en route from North Bay to Toronto, was taxiing to the terminal after its flight when one of the two nose wheels on the landing gear came loose beneath the pilot’s cabin around 1:30 p.m.
“The crew maintained complete control of the aircraft,” Williams said in an e-mail.
“This was an isolated incident and one which we are investigating internally to determine the cause,” she said.
“There were no injuries,” Greater Toronto Airport Authority spokesman Trish Krale said.
“Our emergency services responded to the aircraft,” Krale added.
Jazz is an Air Canada regional affiliate which operates Air Canada Express flights for the airline.
The mishap Sunday was the first of two over the weekend of wheel issues on North American flights.
That evening, a United Express plane travelling from Rochester, N.Y. to New Jersey veered off the runway at Newark Liberty International Airport after four rear tires blew.
Operated by ExpressJet, Flight 4480 veered off the runway, but its eight passengers and five crew members were not reported hurt.
