OTTAWA - A suspicious package on Parliament Hill was deemed safe Friday after several emergency crews were called to the scene to investigate.

"Situation resolved on Parliament Hill. Package examined and non-hazardous," the Ottawa Police posted on Twitter Friday afternoon.

Hazardous-material crews and paramedics were called to the Hill after a package, which looked like a box, was delivered to the visitor's centre in Centre Block around 3 p.m.

The RCMP confirmed six people, including police officers and security guards, were placed in isolation as a precautionary measure because individuals came contact with the package.

The doors to the visitor's centre, located in the basement of Centre Block, were also locked while officials combed surrounding areas.

The RCMP wouldn't comment on the matter further because it is still under investigation.
