Budget cuts would impact border wait times

SARNIA, ONT. - Blue Water Bridge Canada officials are closely monitoring news out of Washington about looming “sequester” budget cuts and their potential impact at the southern Ontario border crossing. The Washington Post has reported that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection department would take a $754-million hit from the budget cuts set to begin Friday, unless politicians in the U.S. capital reach a deal. Overtime pay would be cut at the borders and agents furloughed up to 14 days this year, potentially causing delays for travellers and goods at the border crossings, according to the Post. |
