Border officer fired over crime buddy
By JESSICA MURPHY, Parliamentary Bureau

Canadian Border Service Agency (CBSA) personal, Sunday October 21, 2012. (CARMINE MARINELLI/QMI AGENCY)

OTTAWA - A Canadian Border Services Agency officer was tossed from the force and is under police scrutiny after an investigation revealed he was palling around with a member of organized crime.

The "highly inappropriate" behaviour was flagged in a report tabled Thursday by the federal whistleblower watchdog.

Mario Dion's investigators found the unnamed longtime CBSA agent, who worked at a border crossing near Thunder Bay, Ont., spent his off-hours hobnobbing with a "participant in the number one criminal organization in Ontario."
