OTTAWA — To his family and the police officers that knew him, northern Quebec police Const. Steve Dery was much more than a cop.
He was a hero and a role model, a cherished member of two families — those to whom he was related by blood and marriage, and those with whom he shared a uniform and the same passion for protecting his community.
A valued member of the small Kativik Regional Police force, Dery was remembered Saturday as so much more than #754, the identifying number on the badge he was wearing when he was shot to death responding to a domestic violence call March 9 in northern Quebec.
