MONTREAL — A city employee committed suicide hours after meeting with Quebec's anti-corruption police, QMI Agency has learned.

Robert Rousseau, the head of a city borough's licensing department, killed himself, a source at the city of Montreal said.

The mayor's spokesman, Jonathan Abecassis, told QMI Agency Monday an investigation was underway by the city's controller into the issuing of permits and licenses in the Cote-de-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grace borough, located west of downtown.

Montreal police wouldn't comment directly on the death, but a spokesperson said "nothing criminal" is involved in the case.

Officers brought Rousseau to the provincial police head office on Friday and interrogated him for hours.

Police released Rousseau later that night.

The man's family found his body the next day in his home.

Montreal's second opposition municipal party, Projet Montreal, said Monday it was growing "increasingly concerned about the events going on in this borough."
