Source: Protocols not followed in Calgary Zoo gorilla incident

CALGARY - Safety protocols to protect the public and staff weren’t followed during a recent incident at the Calgary Zoo when gorillas broke into a kitchen, says a Sun source.

Zoo officials said the incident last Friday morning is still under review and wouldn’t deny or confirm it.

But a source close to the zoo said when the incident was first communicated as having the highest urgency, which requires alerting visitors and staff of the danger of an escaped animal once the alarm is confirmed, the policy wasn’t followed.
