Vehicle speeds off B.C. ferry
By QMI Agency

A vehicle drove off the deck of the MV Quinsam Wednesday morning. (BC Ferries)

At least one person is missing after a vehicle drove off a ferry in British Columbia into the water.

Around 3:25 a.m., RCMP were contacted after a speeding vehicle crashed through a barrier at the Descano Bay Terminal, on Gabriola Island, continued onto a ferry and was launched into the air landing in the water. Gabriola Island is located a short distance from Nanaimo, B.C.

RCMP and rescue crews immediately began searching for the vehicle and any occupants who may have been ejected from the vehicle, RCMP said.

As of 4 p.m., the RCMP stated crews had located the vehicle 200 feet from the stern of the ferry, and submerged in 120 feet of water, but haven't found the driver of the vehicle or any passengers.

An RCMP dive team will be back on the scene Thursday.
