A woman's body has been pulled from a vehicle that sped off a ferry off Vancouver Island on Wednesday.

An RCMP dive team recovered the 32-year-old's body around 1 p.m. on Thursday, police said, adding teams are still working to remove the vehicle.

On Wednesday at 3:25 a.m. a speeding vehicle crashed through a barrier at the Descano Bay Terminal on Gabriolo Island, a short distance from Nanaimo, B.C. The vehicle continued onto the ferry and launched into the air and landed in the water.

The car was found 200 feet away from the ferry's stern and submerged in 120 feet of water.

RCMP didn't release an identity for the Gabriola, B.C., woman.
