LONDON, ONT. - A Via passenger train struck and killed a pedestrian west of Strathroy-Carodoc, Ont., Thursday.

A westbound passenger train hit an unidentified person around 3 p.m., said police, who haven't released the victim's identity.

The train left Toronto at 12:15 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Windsor, Ont., at 4:26 p.m., said Via spokeswoman Mylene Belanger.

“Local authorities are on site to investigate the cause of the fatality,” she said Thursday. “The train is still on scene.”

There were 94 passengers on the train.

Nobody was injured.

“This is obviously a tragedy and all our thoughts go to the victim's family,” she said.
