CALGARY — Two friends enjoying an early-morning outing in a small plane literally had to ditch it on the side of a highway when the engine suddenly cut out.
And when pilot Milt Janzen managed to land the Cessna early Friday morning alongside Hwy. 40 just south of the Trans-Canada Hwy., he and friend, Rick Bujnowicz ran from the smoky cockpit, uninjured and relieved to have survived the harrowing ordeal unscathed.
“With no engine, you only have one chance to go where you are going,” he said.
“He just landed it in a ditch. It was surprisingly smooth.”
