EDMONTON — Two kittens survived a five-day train ride in a boxcar from Chicago to Edmonton with no food or water, animal welfare officials said Wednesday.
A man, who didn’t want to be identified, found the tiny, dirty and scared one-month-old kittens — since named Chicago Joe and Boxcar Willemina — on Tuesday sealed in the boxcar.
The man works for an Edmonton warehouse company.
The kittens had been without food and water for the entire trip.
“They are very lucky to have survived,” said Shawna Randolph with the Edmonton Humane Society.
The kittens are being cared for by the humane society until they are old enough to have their spay/neuter surgeries and be placed up for adoption.
