EDMONTON -- A six-year-old boy has died after being struck by a school bus in St. Albert, Alta., Friday morning.
The child, a Grade 2 student at Ecole Marie Poburan in St. Albert, was hit at the intersection of Sir Winston Churchill Ave. and Woodlands Rd.
Police were called at 8:40 a.m., and an investigation is underway.
"This accident is an immense loss to all who knew the victim, and will have a profound effect on the school," said David Keohane, Superintendent of Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools.
"As with any tragedy of this magnitude, we will be watching the students for signs of distress or other adverse reactions to the events, such as anxiety or trauma."
Const. M.J. Burroughs said the child was crossing the road about 200 metres from the school when he was struck by the bus making a right turn. Witnesses reported the child was with people, possibly fellow students, at the time.
