A 17-vehicle crash in south Mississauga sent at least five people to hospital Friday night.
Peel Regional Police Const. George Tudos said five people were taken by ambulance with minor injuries after a black Lincoln Navigator hit all of the vehicles on Dundas Street West near Hurontario Street just after 6 p.m.
"That vehicle then ended up against a light standard pole and has actually sheered it right off its base," he said. "Right now it's resting on that vehicle."
Tudos said when police arrived on-scene area residents were already busy trying to help those hurt in the crash.
"When we got here, numerous people were helping people, getting them out of their vehicles," he said. "They were helping them until paramedics arrived."
Tudos said in addition to those taken by ambulance, a Mississauga Transit bus was used to transport some patients to hospital.
