TORONTO - Toronto Mayor Rob Ford says he’s “drooling” at the thought of taking on his political rivals in next October’s municipal election.

The city’s perpetually-embattled mayor used his weekly weekend radio show to throw down the electoral gauntlet and tout his “accomplishments” since taking the city’s helm in 2010.

“It is a year until we’re back at the polls, folks, and I’m just drooling — I am absolutely salivating — for this next election,” Ford told listeners to his Newstalk 1010 radio show on Sunday.

“It feels like I’m just warming up, you know, in a hockey game, just circling around and you’re ready to drop those gloves and jump over the boards even before the game starts.”

His comments came the same day the Toronto Sun’s Don Peat reported that Councillor Karen Stintz will challenge Ford in the 2014 mayoral race.
