TORONTO - Ford Nation has declared war on Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair.
Coun. Doug Ford went on AM640 Tuesday morning to blast Blair. Mayor Rob Ford's brother alleged there is "absolutely" a political conspiracy against the mayor and called for the Toronto Police Services Board to investigate the chief's conduct.
Blair revealed last Thursday that investigators are now in possession of a video that allegedly shows Rob Ford smoking crack, along with another video. He also confirmed police had arrested accused drug dealer Sandro Lisi, Ford's friend and occasional driver, for extortion. Court documents later detailed that Lisi is accused of extorting two men to try to retrieve the notorious video.
In the wake of those bombshells, Mayor Ford apologized for two cases of public drunkenness and vowed to curb his drinking.
But Coun. Ford told AM640 host John Oakley the police investigation is about politics.
"I've told the police chief right to his face he's the best politician I've ever met...he believes that he's the judge, the jury and the executioner.
"He wanted to go out and put a political bullet right between the mayor's eyes and thought that would be the final bullet to knock the mayor off. He showed his cards, he thought he had a royal flush and it shows he has a couple of pairs of deuces."
Doug Ford said Blair needs to step down until a police board investigation is complete because “there is obviously a bias right now, moving forward in this city, with the police chief against the mayor of this city."
The Fords have maintained throughout the scandal that they still support the city's cops and have talked about a budget increase to hire 150 more officers.
"Rob and I love our police," Ford said, specifying they support "front-line officers."
"We differentiate between the police chief and all the rest of the hardworking police officers that put their lives on the line every day for us."
Ford also questioned the release of police surveillance photos last week. The photos were released Thursday following a court fight led by media lawyers. One of the surveillance photos shows Mayor Ford urinating on a tree during a meeting with Lisi.
"Do I agree with that? No," Doug Ford said. "Is it right? No, it is not right."
He went on to suggest every man has gone to the bathroom outside at some point, including the chief.
