Police work at the scene where a four-year-old boy was struck and killed by car near a public school.

TORONTO - A four-year-old boy has died after being struck by a vehicle near an elementary school in Mississauga Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at Artesian Dr., in the Winston Churchill Blvd. and Hwy. 403 area.

The boy was walking west towards Artesian Drive Public School with a family member when he was hit by a Toyota, Peel Regional Police said. The driver of the car remained at the scene.

The boy, who was unconscious and bleeding from the head, was taken to a local hospital, then airlifted to Sick Kids hospital.

Police remain at the scene for the investigation.
