PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – Police are searching for a woman who came into the police station with a container labelled “85% uranium,” looking for advise of how to dispose of it.

The woman walked into the Lindsay, Ont., station on Nov. 30 and told officers the orange, powdered substance may have come from the Kirkland Lake area, where her grandfather once worked.

It had since been sitting in a barn for about 40 years, police said.

After officers and fire officials spoke with the Ministry of the Environment, the woman was given advice on how to dispose of the powder and she left.

But after she was gone, police realized no one had taken down her contact information so someone could follow up with her.

Police said the substance does not post a risk to the public.
