Suspended Sen. Patrick Brazeau won't be joining the parliamentary press gallery.

Brazeau had applied for credentials to cover Parliament Hill as a freelancer for Frank magazine.

The press gallery board denied his request on Wednesday morning, president Daniel Thibeault said.

Thibeault said the gallery accepts members whose main occupation is reporting on federal news.

Press gallery members also must declare that they don't represent a political party or do political work, he said.

"The executive feels that although he's suspended from the Senate, he's still a senator," Thibeault said, adding Brazeau is looking to return to the Senate.

"That point of view, we feel, is not compatible with active, full-time membership with the press gallery."

The decision was part of a regular meeting to discuss applications for membership, Thibeault said. Nine of the 10 board members were present.
