CALGARY -- Country music star George Canyon has been left devastated after his friend was killed in plane crash in Lloydminister, Alta., shortly after dropping him off for a gig.
Calgarian Bill Lovse was killed Saturday when the single-engine Cessna 210 plane he was piloting hit the ground, skidding about 150 metres before hitting a house, 2 km east of the Lloydminster Airport about 1 p.m.
Lovse had just dropped off Canyon and his tour manager at the Lloydminster Airport for the singer's performance at the Huron Carole concert held at the Vic Juba Community Theatre that night, Canyon's publicist Anya Wilson said.
In a statement, Canyon said he was devastated at the loss of his friend.
"I have just lost a dear friend who was not just an aviation buddy, we shared an interest in sports and often played hockey together," Canyon said in the statement. "He and I have flown many times all over the place.
"I am devastated with the news and my prayers and thoughts are all with his family and friends."
