BELLEVILLE, Ont. -- The dramatic rescue Tuesday of a crane operator by a CFB Trenton helicopter crew was literally a trial by fire for Capt. David Agnew.
It was the first rescue mission Agnew, 38, had flown as an aircraft commander.
"It was a race against time. Everything worked out," said Agnew, a White Rock, B.C., native, now a resident of this eastern Ontario city, late Tuesday night.
He and his four crewmates rescued the man from the boom of a crane above a raging fire at a housing complex in Kingston, about 83 km east of here.
The team with CFB Trenton's 424 "Tiger" Transport and Rescue Squadron were at the base when the call came at 2:45 p.m.
