TORONTO - It appears the ice storm aftermath inadvertently claimed the life of a Scarborough man Christmas morning.

Emergency crews responded to a car fire on Sandown Ave., near Kingston Rd. and Midland Ave., around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday and found the man dead inside the vehicle.

Sources say it’s suspected the man climbed into the car to warm up.

A fire, possibly sparked by a cigarette, started inside the vehicle and the man was killed by smoke inhalation.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating the death.
