The search for a five-year-old boy who went missing on Boxing Day in southern Ontario has officially been called off, Waterloo Regional Police Service confirmed Monday.
Robbie Reiner, of New Hamburg, Ont., went missing from his home at about 4:40 p.m. on Boxing Day, where it is believed he fell through the ice of Nith River.
The Waterloo Regional Police, with help from the Wilmot, Kitchener and Cambridge Fire Departments and the Ontario Provincial Police, concluded that workers had exhausted all available options after conducting the five-day search for the young boy, a police press release stated.
"We are thankful for our strong working relationship with the OPP and for their support in providing this community with additional resources during this incident," Staff Sgt. Shaena Morris said.
Police said that even though the search for Reiner has ended, they will continue to investigate the young boy's disappearance.
