My, my. If those are delicious food baskets being handed out, it can only mean one thing.

There’s an election in the air.

Yep, Premier Kathleen Wynne was in the east end of Toronto Monday, pledging gift cards to those who’d thrown out food during the ice storm.

Well, hello? Don’t know how to break it to her, but it was colder on my balcony than it was in my fridge during the power outage.

Most people took their Christmas turkeys and put them outside — and they stayed frozen. But now we’re rewarding stupidity.

So this is how far the nanny state has come? Taxpayers must underwrite every natural catastrophe.

The government will match donations from chains such as Loblaw Companies Ltd., Metro, Sobeys and Shoppers Drug Mart, which have pitched in $25,000 a pop in gift cards.
