VANCOUVER -- A day after police called off their search for missing British tourist Tom Billings, North Shore Rescue (NSR) members also announced they had given up.

“Many volunteer hours went into this operation and our members committed themselves over this holiday break for the Billings family,” the search and rescue organization announced on Facebook Sunday.

“The high-probability terrain is now covered in snow, risk to rescuers has increased, and chances of finding him in the search area, for now, are very low.”

Billings, 22, went missing Nov. 25 and NSR said volunteers searched 1,500 hours.

Last week, it posted a high-definition aerial video online in hopes somebody might notice any “anomalies.” But on Saturday, police announced they were halting any active searches.
