BARRIE, Ont. — Barrie MP Patrick Brown has decided not to expense a November trip to the UN, during which he also ran the New York City Marathon.

“Out of an abundance of caution and utmost respect for Canadian taxpayers, I will no longer be seeking reimbursement for this trip from the House of Commons,” the Tory MP said Wednesday afternoon.

“I proactively posted the expense claim on my website prior to receiving a reimbursement. I have not received any reimbursement nor will I.”

In an expense report posted to his website, Brown said he spent $1,416.06 to “meet with United Nations” officials in New York City Nov. 2-4, 2013. But he also ran in the city’s famous marathon on Nov. 3, finishing 6,641st with a time of three hours, 36 minutes and 53 seconds.

Brown would have needed to register for the race several months in advance.

On Nov. 4, he tweeted:
