OTTAWA — Moved by past success in getting their party to support legalizing and taxing marijuana, now the Young Liberals in B.C. want Canadians to be able to rent hookers legally.

Delegates may debate full legalization of prostitution at the Liberal policy convention in Montreal next month, as the party's youth wing in that province pushes to allow Canadians to run brothels.

"Limiting sex-trade workers to the street puts them at a greater risk of human trafficking, assault, murder, and other violent and malicious crimes," says the preamble to the proposed policy.

Asked whether Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau wanted the idea debated, spokeswoman Kate Purchase would only say: "The delegates that attend will decide what makes it to the plenary floor for a vote."
