WINNIPEG -- A woman rushed to the aid of her neighbour when she heard the screams of the panicked mother whose nine-year-old boy was buried in snow outside his home. The boy, according to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, remains in critical condition in hospital. Kimberley Hein said her daughter alerted her that she heard a woman screaming on the street around 7 p.m. Wednesday. The two rushed outside and found the boy trapped in a bank of snow, his face and neck uncovered with the rest of his body submerged. "It was really hard to see the anguish that this mother was going through," said Hein, who lives next door. Hein's daughter helped the terrified mother begin digging the boy out, while Hein ran to a neighbour to call paramedics. "Then we realized it was just too much, we would need help," Hein said. Hein said she alerted another neighbour, eventually flagged down a passing motorist and estimated there were, at one point, a dozen people all working together to free the boy.
