Mayor Rob Ford got a polite smackdown from Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion as he tried to fire another shot in his public feud with Premier Kathleen Wynne.

Ford arrived at Friday’s meeting of GTA mayors openly questioning why Wynne wasn’t there and accusing her of choosing the Niagara Falls byelection over the communities hit by the ice storm.

“She should be (here). If I was the premier and had all the mayors from around the province, why would you send a minister? It doesn’t make any sense,” Ford said.

Wynne was on the campaign trail in Niagara Falls on Friday with federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.

After the meeting, McCallion — who spoke to Wynne by phone Friday morning — was confident Municipal Affairs Minister Linda Jeffrey would “carry that message back to the premier.”

But Ford maintained Wynne should have shown up.

In response, McCallion said that the mayor’s need to follow the established protocol.
