OTTAWA — Canada's privacy watchdog is calling on Parliament to strengthen privacy protection in an age of cyber espionage.

"We would like to see greater transparency about privacy protection in the context of national security," said interim privacy commissioner Chantal Bernier.

In a report released Tuesday, Bernier makes 10 recommendations, including some dealing specifically Canada's cyber-security organization, Communications Security Establishment (CSE).

Bernier wants to see CSE produce annual reports on its activities, along with annual statistics for how often in co-operates with other government agencies to intercept communications in Canada and abroad.
