OTTAWA - New Democrats are pushing for a quicker Health Canada review of an abortion pill that could be connected to several women's deaths.

NDP MP Niki Ashton says mifepristone, also called RU-486, can provide "safe abortions."

"Can the (health) minister assure this House that an ideological agenda is not behind the delay in approval of RU-486?" Ashton asked Wednesday.

Health Minister Rona Ambrose insists her department's scientists won't rush their evaluation.
