TORONTO - Coun. Doug Ford asked courthouse staffers to be excused from serving on a jury Monday — his first day of jury duty.

His request was promptly denied, but the mayor’s brother insisted in an interview that he would love to serve as a jury member. He’ll be back in the jury pool Tuesday and could end up participating in a case.

Ford explained that he asked to be excused because he fears that his wife and four daughters could be targeted if a vengeful person gets convicted.

“The only person who is not anonymous, besides me, is the judge. They know where I live, they know everything about me,” Ford said. “I’ve already had death threats ... to my kids, to me, to my family.”

Media outlets have exposed his address and other personal details, so “anyone can just Google it,” Ford said, while sitting in the jury lounge at University Ave.
