EDMONTON — A mom has been charged after her two-year-old daughter was left alone in a parked vehicle in Edmonton as temperatures plunged to -17C.

The 32-year-old woman has been charged under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.

Southwest division officers responded to a strip mall parking lot at about 6:30 p.m. Monday after being notified by a passerby that a young child had been left alone in the parked vehicle.

The two-year-old girl was found inside and witnesses told police the child had been in the vehicle for about 40 minutes.

Patrol members broke a window and retrieved the child.

Paramedics determined the girl was cold, but otherwise in good health.
