Support is pouring in for a Victoria, B.C., man who will have to say goodbye to his wife the day their son is born.

On Dec. 28, Robyn Benson suffered a sudden hemorrhage of blood to her brain, her husband Dylan Benson wrote on the fundraising website YouCaring.com.

She was 22 weeks pregnant.

"Devastatingly, my wife, Robyn, became brain dead," Dylan Benson wrote.

He made the decision with doctors to keep Robyn's body alive until she was at or as close to 34 weeks as possible, when a caesarean section could be done and their son, Iver Cohen, would have a better chance of surviving.

Benson was hoping to raise $36,000 — the amount of his wife's annual wages — but as of Tuesday morning, he had raised more than $75,000.

In an update Monday, he wrote he was "overwhelmed" by the support, not just from friends and family, but from across the country and globe.
