ORILLIA, Ont. — Too much snow is just enough for one Ontario dad, who built his family a 50-foot luge in their front yard.

Orillia, north of Toronto, has been lambasted by snow this winter. After shovelling the roof of his home this weekend, Mike Smit ended up with a huge pile of snow near his front door.

So he spent three to four hours shovelling it into a luge track, from his front door and across the lawn.

“I brought the hose out from the laundry sink downstairs and sprayed (the luge) down,” Smit said, proud of his handiwork.

“For the kids to play somewhere, I thought that was a good start.”

And the kids are enjoying it.

“It’s pretty epic,” 10-year-old daughter Mia Smit said.

The family is eagerly anticipating more snow and colder weather.

“We’re expecting 10 centimetres more so this will build up the banks better,” Smit said. “And then it’s going to go down to -10 C, so I’ll flood it again.”
