TORONTO - Coun. Doug Ford teed off on John Tory Wednesday.

Ford slammed the possible 2014 mayoral candidate for advising young women to take up golf to get ahead in their career, labelling the comment as “chauvinistic” and Tory as “part of the 1%.”

“I have four girls, none of them golf,” Ford said. “I think it is a biased, chauvinistic comment. I think he should stick to his radio show.

“He should be apologizing to every single female in the country for his comments about that — it’s disgusting.”

On Monday, Tory waded into a discussion about pay equity in an interview on CP24 and later on Newstalk 1010.

“I’ll say to people right now, young women, learn how to play golf,” Tory said. “You will find it is immensely advantageous to your career that you can go out, and you know if you play a good game of golf as a woman, I believe it is hugely helpful.”

Coun. Ford — who is Mayor Rob Ford’s campaign manager and a wealthy businessman himself — also blasted Tory as “one of the elites.”

“For John Tory to say that you’ll be more successful if you’re a golfer is an absolute joke,” he said.
