TORONTO — Mayor Rob Ford says he lied for months about smoking crack cocaine because he was embarrassed.

Ford offered the explanation in his new Ford Nation YouTube show that was posted online Monday.

“I do not have a substance abuse problem. Did I experiment with drugs? Yes, I have,” Ford said in the video called “Rob Ford comes clean.”

In the video, Ford answers a question read out by his brother, Coun. Doug Ford, that they claim comes from “Sandra in Bangkok, Thailand.”

The question was, “Why did you lie about your substance abuse problem when you initially were asked?”

“Why did I lie? I think everybody in the world has lied, because I was embarrassed,” Mayor Ford said. “I didn’t want to tell the truth. That’s the only answer I can give. That’s as straightforward as I can be.

“I’m not a drug addict. I don’t use drugs. Have I in the past? Yes.”

Ford said “it is very, very humiliating in front of the world” to admit to drug use.

The mayor initially dismissed reports back in May that he was caught on video smoking crack cocaine and continued to deny he used the drug for months.
