CALGARY -- Through her grief, the widow of a Sylvan Lake, Alta., snowmobiler killed in an avalanche near Revelstoke, B.C., is taking comfort in knowing he died saving a life.

Chris McCoy, who celebrated his 36th birthday Friday, was killed Saturday in a snow slide on Boulder Mountain while snowmobiling with his brother and co-workers.

RCMP say a group of four were near the Boulder Mountain Snowmobile cabin when an avalanche was triggered.

McCoy's wife Kathy has learned Chris was helping another sledder who was stuck in the snow before it happened.

It's an act of heroism that is now bringing her comfort.

"Chris was always one of the first to get off and go help," she said.

The two got caught in the slide and while the other survived, Chris died despite CPR efforts to save him.

"So he actually died saving somebody," she said.
