On this Family Day, Americans can celebrate the Kennedys, Brits can honour the Windsors. Cuba has those loveable Castros, India the endearing Gandhis, North Korea the kooky Kims...

...and Canada, of course, has the Fords.

Right, Justin? Justin?

By now, the scion of the Trudeau dynasty likely has read Crazy Town, Robyn Doolittle’s book about Rob Ford and his clan, in which she describes them as aspiring to Kennedyesque stature. The dashing Liberal prince may have muttered to himself: “Those pissants!”

After all, the Trudeaus have enjoyed the title of Canadian Kennedys for half a century, since Pierre roared onto the scene in a Mercedes-Benz sports car with a rose in his teeth.

They have a strong case, starting with considerable wealth, though they’re not Kennedy rich.

If Pierre was our JFK, Maggie is every Kennedy wild child combined. Also, the Trudeaus endured the tragedy, scandal and political ups and downs characteristic of Kennedys.
