The Ontario legislature has agreed to fly the Pride flag at Queen's Park during the Olympics, joining widespread opposition to Russia's anti-gay legislation.

"I think it's the right cause in light of what's happening in Sochi," Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak said Tuesday, shortly before the house gave the needed unanimous consent to break with protocol and fly the rainbow flag.

The flag, a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights, has been flying proudly at many public buildings in Canada, including Toronto City Hall, in response to a Russian law which makes it an offence punishable by jail time to distribute gay "propaganda" that could be accessible to minors.
