TORONTO - Late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel was surprised Mayor Rob Ford was miffed at him following their interview Monday night.

In his opening monologue Tuesday, Kimmel appeared baffled by the Fords’ reaction to Monday night’s interview.

“It seemed like we were having fun. We went over - much of his remarkable life. We reviewed some of his home videos. But then after the show, he was apparently upset,” Kimmel told his audience. “Why, I’m not exactly sure. I asked him about drinking and smoking crack. What were we supposed to talk about? His other hobbies?

“After the show Rob was surprised I guess, he left right away mad.”

The mayor and Councillor Doug Ford’s reaction to the interview swung wildly from initially slamming the one-on-one to putting a largely positive spin on it by the time they returned to Toronto.

Kimmel pointed out the change in tune by playing a clip of Mayor Ford at City Hall on Tuesday lauding his performance on U.S. TV.

“Was it a tough interview? Sure it was but he has a job to do like that’s his job,” Ford said. “I knew I was going into a lion’s den and I held my own.”

He went on to say he likes Kimmel and “the people of L.A.”
