CALGARY -- A Calgary couple will have a new story to tell at their wedding after bride-to-be Arlene Chamulak flushed her expensive engagement ring in the toilet in a moment of confusion.
Valued at $20,000, the engagement ring went from sparkling on her finger to spending about five days in a pipe.
“It’s the only one I’ll ever have,” said Chamulak.
“I didn’t want to lose it.”
On Feb. 24, Chamulak was getting ready for bed and got rid of the chewing gum in her mouth by throwing the gum in the toilet.
The next day the precious gem was nowhere to be found.
Normally, the ring would be resting in a small jewelry bowl, said the woman who co-owns Oil & Vinegar, a culinary gift shop, with her fiance Les Archibald.
“I looked around and I looked around. I dumped the bowl out and I saw the gum.”
